Jarred “J” Welborn is the founding partner of J.
Welborn & Associates.He is a native of northwest Mississippi, and
currently resides with his wife and three children in north Shelby County,
Alabama. He is a graduate of The University of Alabama and The Birmingham
School of Law. Currently, Jarred serves
the Shelby County Bar Association as Secretary.
In addition to being the Secretary of the Shelby
County Bar Association, he is a member of the American Bar Association, where
he serves on many subcommittees. He is
currently a member of the American Bar Association’s Criminal Justice Section’s
Academics Committee, Alternative Dispute Resolution & Restorative Justice
Committee, Criminal Practice Management/Solo & Small Firm, Criminal
Procedure and Evidence Committee, Defense Function/Services Committee; and
Criminal Justice Section. Additionally,
Jarred is a member of the Alabama State Bar and the ASB’s Criminal Justice
section, and the Young Lawyers section. Jarred is also a member of the Birmingham
Bar Association and serves as Membership co-chairman on the executive committee
of the Criminal Justice Section and a member of the Solo Practice and Small
Firm section. As a member of the Shelby County Bar
Association, Jarred co-founded the Shelby County Bar’s criminal defense
subsection.
Jarred’s practice focuses on criminal defense and
he works regularly to negotiate legal issues for his clients and seeks to
settle matters wherever possible but stands ready to litigate where necessary. He
practices primarily in Shelby and Jefferson counties, but also has represented
clients in Autauga, Bibb, Blount, Calhoun, Chilton, St. Clair, Talladega,
Tallapoosa, and Walker counties as well as clients from out of state with
pending legal matters in Alabama.
In addition to his legal work, Jarred is active
in the community, serving on the executive board of directors for Big Brothers
Big Sisters of Greater Shelby County and as a member of Jefferson State
Community College’s Early Childhood Development Board. Jarred is a member of the Jefferson County
Exchange Club’s Parental Advisory Board, the Executive Board of CASA of Shelby
County, the Shelby County Drug Free Coalition and the Children’s Policy Council
of Shelby County. He was also selected
to be a judge for the ABA’s Regional Negotiation Competition and the Parham
Williams Trial competition held at Cumberland School of Law in 2015 and 2016
and has assisted with The University of Alabama School of Law’s Criminal Moot
Court Team. Jarred has served Shelby
County as a volunteer firefighter for both Saginaw and Harpersville fire
departments.
Jarred is very active in Shelby County politics. He is a member of both the State of Alabama
Republican Party and the Shelby County Republican Executive Committee. In addition to also providing political
consulting work, Jarred successfully managed two Judicial campaigns in the 2016
primary and subsequent runoff election cycle wherein both of his candidates won
their respective primary and runoff and faced no opposition in the 2016 general
election.
